Dignity in Old Age

Rural Reality

Growing old should bring comfort, not uncertainty. Yet across rural Maharashtra, many elderly parents are quietly abandoned due to poverty, migration, or the simple inability of families to cope with rising medical and living costs. What should be a phase of rest often turns into a struggle for food, shelter, and basic care.

In districts like Beed, the problem is not always visible, but it is deeply real. When children move to cities for work and agricultural income becomes unstable, elderly members are left without structured support. Some lose access to medicines. Others lose emotional connection. Many lose both. The issue is not just financial   it is social displacemen

Aajol Parivar was established to respond to this gap with structure, not sympathy. Through Aajol Old Age Home in Karegaon and Rakshasbhuvan, abandoned and destitute senior citizens receive permanent shelter, daily meals, medical checkups every 15 days, and a stable routine. Festivals are celebrated. Prayer and community engagement are encouraged. The environment is designed to feel like a home, not an institution.

Elder care requires consistent infrastructure   food supply, healthcare access, transportation, and expansion planning to accommodate increasing demand. With a proposed expansion for 50 additional elderly residents, the foundation is working to build a sustainable rural care system that restores dignity rather than offering temporary relief.

Supporting senior citizens is not charity. It is responsibility. When society ensures that its elders live with respect, it protects its own moral foundation. Rural elder care in India needs long-term commitment, and structured rehabilitation models like Aajol Parivar are proving that dignity can be restored  even in the most challenging conditions.
